Jeremy Dear, General Secretary of the National Union of Journalists and member of the British Hands Off Venezuela steering committee, met with President Chavez as part of a trade union delegation from Britain. Jeremy discussed the campaign of disinformation in the mainstream media abroad. We will report more on this next week together with reports of the UNT conference taking place now. Following the hugely successful visit to London by Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, where he addressed audiences of hundreds, the Hands Off Venezuela campaign is to be launched in Scotland with a press conference at the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday, 31st May.

Thirty delegates and visitors from the national conference of the Communication Workers Union attended the very first Hands Off Venezuela fringe meeting, held on Monday lunchtime in windswept Bournemouth. The day before, the 250,000-strong union, which organises both postal and telecommunications workers in Britain, had unanimously agreed to support the Venezuelan Revolution and also affiliate nationally to HOV.

Kathe Reichel was a student of Bertolt Brecht, and a Marxist. She is now 80 years of age and travelled to Venezuela in March "to make sure I die with some hope". Here is an audio recording of a speech/prose in German that she read out to a standing ovation at a recent meeting of "Artists for the Latin American Process" in Berlin. UNT leader Ruben Linares began his tour of Germany with a hectic schedule of meetings in Berlin. Linares visited factories, met with left activists and spoke at several meetings, allowing him to forge important links between Venezuelan and German workers.
